Save Our Waters Week
Sixteenth Annual Save Our Waters Week
September 17 - 24, 2011
Going Green Doesn't Mean Green Water; Fertilize Responsibly
Save Our Waters was established in Citrus County in 1996. At that time Citrus 20/20, Inc. joining partnership with the FDEP, Southwest Florida Water Management District and the County Government created a day that established that every year on the third Saturday in September the community would come together and cleanup a waterway or shoreline, calling this day Adopt-a-Shore/Coastal Cleanup. In 2003, the Chronicle joined in the partnership followed by Progress Energy in 2005.
Now entering its 16th year, Save Our Waters has grown into a major weeklong community event with water related activities and events scheduled throughout the week.
The purpose of Save Our Waters Week is to serve as an annual vehicle for promoting public awareness, education and consensus to save Citrus County’s treasured waters (aquifers, springs, rivers, lakes and coastal areas).
This year, Save Our Waters Week will be celebrated from September 17 – 24.
